I am not saying that all games are bad, it just seems that everything has to deal with blood, sex, stealing and what ever else they think of. I know that they have to keep their product selling but what ever happened to Donkey Kong, where you hit things with a box or something and not shooting them and seeing blood all over. Why have games become so violent? I know it sells but it makes me wounder why we the people keep buying it and then turning around and blaming it for Tommy down the street going crazy and shooting up the school or something. I am by no means saying that video games cause people to do that stuff, but there are people who think that way. My response is where is the parents, or teachers, friends and so on. I think we have no one else to blame so we blame the video games.
I have a son who likes to play those type of games, but I make sure he realises that it is just a game, that you can't do that stuff for real. Also I don't allow him to be on it all day everyday. That is the problem, all this technology has become a live in baby sitter for some people. Maybe I am wrong and I am not saying that everyone is like that. But just take a minute and think. Todays parents both have to work, plus take kids to football, basketball, or volleyball games, and then come home make dinner, make sure kid does homework. So when the weekend comes and hopefully nothing is going on, parents just want to relax and not have to worry about anything. So then what does the kid do, play video games, watch tv, or talk on phone or on the web.
I wouldn't say exposure to these type of things is wrong at all, yes people are constantly exposed to violence and that type of stuff, but at the same time we have instantaneous access to news and people from all over the world. While people unfamiliar with the system will only see the negatives, we are exposed constantly to positives. Go on reddit and almost any day you will find a kickstarter for a family in need or a project that could change the world. Sites like Khan Academy can help the struggling student pass absolutely any class. And there are non-violent video games on every system; Minecraft, Child of Eden, plenty more.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on the violent video games. I understand that people can't control what other parents allow their children to play but I have seen some children under the age of six that are allowed to play Grand Theft Auto and I just don't think that small children should be exposed to that. Joanna and I absolutely love the new Super Mario Brothers and Donkey Kong, they need to come out with more games like that!
ReplyDeleteI love all the old school Mario Brothers games. I wish they would remake some of them to see what they would be like. I also think letting children play violent games depends on the child. I feel like some children play violent games and they grow up to be just fine, while other children are more aggresive when they play games like that. I'm not sure where I really stand on that matter.
ReplyDeleteThey came out with a new Tetris game for the 3DS in the last few months or so, and they game out with another super mario brothers game just a bit ago and the next one is coming next month. They are still there, just gotta look at the system of the game~ Seems your son is more interested in X-box games which features more adult like gameplay. Playstation is in between the more violent and adult and just family style, and Nintendo is more family wise.
ReplyDeleteI find it smart you bring reality into play with your son, because people who grow up believing everything in video games, and even TV shows, is true and real, well, they will grow up with the wrong thoughts.
Video games are definitely gaining more in profits. Along with what you said about video games looking so real, it makes me wonder what they will be like in 50 years.
